Trehalose fatty acid esters (THFAE) have potential applications in pharmaceuticals, functional foods, and dietary supplements.
Synthesis of Trehalose Fatty Acid Esters: The synthesis of THFAE was carried out in seven different solvents, namely tert-butanol, DMF, hexane, acetone, DMSO, acetonitrile, and iso-octane. In the preliminary solvent screening reactions, 0.05 M trehalose dihydrate, 0.20 M palmitic acid, 25 mg/mL CALB 10,000 enzyme, and 100 mg/mL dried molecular sieves were used. For the typical trehalose palmitic acid ester synthesis reaction, trehalose dihydrate and palmitic acid were added to an organic solvent, and then molecular sieves and enzymes were added to a 50 mL round-bottom flask. The reaction was conducted in a shaking water bath at 55 °C (150 RPM) for 24 hours. After the reaction was complete, the enzyme was separated by filtration, and the reaction mixture was filtered using a 0.22 µm syringe filter. The samples were refrigerated until further analysis or purification.
