Synthesis of Monolayer MnO2 Nanosheets Using Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) in One Step

Synthesis of Monolayer MnO2 Nanosheets Using Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) in One Step Liu, Zhenning, et al. Small 11.18 (2015): 2182-2191.

A template-free, one-step, single-phase method to synthesize monolayer MnO2 nanosheets has been developed through a redox reaction between KMnO4 and Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS).
Synthesis Method for Monolayer MnO2 Nanosheets:
Initial Preparation:
1.Add SDS solution (0.1 M, 32 mL) and H2SO4 solution (0.1 M, 1.6 mL) into 283.2 mL of distilled water.
2.Heat this mixture at 95 °C for 15 minutes.
Reaction:
1.Quickly add KMnO4 solution (0.05 M, 3.2 mL) to the SDS solution to initiate the reaction.
2.Heat the reaction mixture for 60 minutes to obtain a homogeneous deep brown solution.
3.The total volume of the reaction mixture is 320 mL, with concentrations of [SDS] = 0.01 M, [H+] = 0.001 M (pH = 3.0), and [KMnO4] = 5 × 10-4 M.
Post-Reaction Handling:
1.The colloidal suspension of MnO2 nanosheets is stored at 4 °C in the dark and remains stable for over 6 weeks without any precipitation.
2. Purify the synthesized MnO2 nanosheets (sn-MnO2) by centrifugation and repeatedly wash with ultrapure water and alcohol.
Re-Suspension and Characterization:
1. Re-suspend the purified MnO2 nanosheets in ultrapure water to form a colloidal suspension.
2. Dry the suspension on the appropriate substrates overnight at room temperature for morphological characterization using TEM, SEM, and AFM.
This method presents a straightforward and effective approach to synthesize monolayer MnO2 nanosheets with stability and purity suitable for detailed morphological studies.

SDS-Assisted Synthesis of Zn3V2O8 Nanostructures

SDS-Assisted Synthesis of Zn3V2O8 Nanostructures Mazloom, Fatemeh, et al. Journal of Molecular Liquids 214 (2016): 46-53.

Zn3V2O8 nanostructures were synthesized by a simple precipitation method using the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a size and morphology control agent.
Synthesis of Pure Zn3V2O8 Nanoparticles
Zn3V2O8 nanostructures were prepared via the reaction between Zn(NO3)2·4H2O and NH4VO3 in a molar ratio of 3:2 in the presence of the SDS surfactant. In a typical experiment, an aqueous solution of NH4VO3 (2 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution containing 3 mmol of Zn(NO3)2·4H2O and 0.5 g of the SDS surfactant. During this process, a yellow suspension gradually appeared. Finally, after stirring the mixture for about 2 hours, a base was added to adjust the pH of the solution to approximately 8-9. The final product was obtained through centrifugation and then washed with deionized water and ethanol. The obtained product was dried under vacuum at 80 °C for 2 hours and then calcined at 600 °C for another 2 hours.

Calcium Silicate Hydrate Synthesis Employing Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate as a Surfactant

Calcium Silicate Hydrate Synthesis Employing Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate as a Surfactant Mehrali, Mehdi, et al. Ultrasonics sonochemistry 21.2 (2014): 735-742.

Calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) composed of nanosheets was successfully synthesized using calcium nitrate (Ca(NO3)·4H2O), sodium metasilicate (Na2SiO3·9H2O), and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) through an advanced ultrasonic irradiation (UI) method.
Synthesis of Calcium Silicate Hydrate with Different SDS Concentrations via Ultrasonication
In a typical experiment, different amounts of SDS (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 g) were added to 25 ml of 0.1 M Ca(NO3)2·4H2O solution, with the pH adjusted to 11.5, and stirred for 10 minutes. Subsequently, 15 ml of 0.1 M Na2SiO3·9H2O solution was slowly added into the same beaker. The solution was then subjected to ultrasonication at room temperature for 10 minutes.
