Synthesis of Terbium (III) and Salicylamide-Doped Nickel Ferrite (NiFe₂O₄) Nanoparticles

Synthesis of Terbium (III) and Salicylamide-Doped Nickel Ferrite (NiFe₂O₄) Nanoparticles Kizilduman, Berna Kocer, et al. Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering 12.5 (2024): 113715.

Eco-friendly and cost-effective NiFe₂O₄:salicylamide and NiFe₂O₄:salicylamide:Tb³⁺ nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized using a simple reflux-assisted chemical co-precipitation method.
Synthesis of Salicylamide-Linked NiFe₂O₄ (NIFS) Nanoparticles
Salicylamide-doped NiFe₂O₄ was synthesized as follows: 1.5 g (11.61 mmol) of salicylamide was added to a suspension of 1 g of NiFe₂O₄ in 30 mL of deionized water. The mixture was refluxed for 24 hours under stirring. The resulting NiFe₂O₄/salicylamide composite was then filtered and washed with ethanol and deionized water. Finally, the product was dried at 50°C.
Synthesis of Tb³⁺-Doped NiFe₂O₄/Salicylamide (NIFST) Nanoparticles
Tb³⁺-doped NiFe₂O₄/salicylamide nanoparticles were prepared via a co-precipitation method. In a typical synthesis, 0.025 g of Tb(NO₃)₃·6H₂O was added to a suspension of 1 g of NiFe₂O₄/salicylamide in 30 mL of ethanol and vigorously stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. The mixture was then refluxed for 16 hours, during which a blackish-brown precipitate formed. The NiFe₂O₄/salicylamide:Tb³⁺ (2.5 wt%) composite was filtered, washed with ethanol and deionized water, and dried at 50°C for 24 hours. The final powder was stored in a desiccator.

A Green Process for the Dehydration of Salicylamide to Salicylonitrile

A Green Process for the Dehydration of Salicylamide to Salicylonitrile Lan, Guojun, et al. Molecular Catalysis 563 (2024): 114258.

The synthesis of salicylonitrile is commonly achieved through the dehydration of salicylamide. In this study, the conversion of salicylamide to salicylonitrile was successfully carried out using a heterogeneous PdCl2/AC catalyst in a green process.
Procedure: A mixture of 0.73 mmol of salicylamide and 0.385 g of PdCl2/AC (S/C = 20) was placed in a sealed reactor, along with 6 mL of 50% acetonitrile aqueous solution. The reactor was heated to the desired reaction temperature, and the stirring speed was set to 850 rpm to minimize potential mass transfer resistance. At the conclusion of the reaction, the reactor was rapidly cooled to room temperature, and the supernatant was separated by centrifugation. The products were identified and quantified using liquid chromatography with a C18 column (4.6 × 250 mm) and ultraviolet detection. In an additional experiment, the catalyst was separated from the reaction mixture after 1.5 hours, and the filtrate continued to react for an additional 5.5 hours.
