Branched polybutylene succinate-butylene glycol ester (PBS) copolymer, abbreviated as PBDS, was synthesized using 1,4-butanediol, 1,2-decanediol, and succinic acid as raw materials through a two-stage esterification and polycondensation reaction.
In the first esterification stage, succinic acid (SA), 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BD), and 1,2-decanediol (1,2-DD) (the molar ratio of SA to 1,4-BD+1,2-DD was 1:1.1) were mixed in a three-necked flask under a nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction was catalyzed by 0.1 mol% of titanium butoxide (TBT) relative to SA. The reaction temperature was maintained at 190 °C for 2 hours.
In the second polycondensation stage, the temperature was further increased to 220 °C under a vacuum of less than 100 Pa. After 4 hours, the temperature was raised to 230 °C and maintained for approximately 0.5 hours. The resulting sample was purified by dissolving it in chloroform and further precipitating using excess cold methanol.
Similarly, PBS was synthesized. Three branched PBS copolymers were synthesized and abbreviated as PBDS5, PBDS10, and PBDS20, where the numbers represent the molar ratio of 1,2-DD in the feed.

1,2-Decanediol (1,2-DDO) was hydrogenated and deoxygenated to synthesize 1-decanol using a liquid-phase catalytic hydrogenation-deoxygenation method.
The reaction was conducted in a 50 mL stainless steel batch reactor. 1,2-DDO was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at a mass ratio of 1:8. Then, 18 g of the prepared solution and 0.5 g of catalyst were added to the reactor. The catalyst was pre-reduced under a 5 MPa hydrogen atmosphere at 300 °C for 1 hour. After sealing the reactor, the reaction environment was purged with hydrogen at 1.5 MPa pressure three times. Before starting the reaction, the stirring speed was adjusted to 500 rpm, and the hydrogen pressure was set to 3 MPa. Over approximately 50 minutes, the temperature gradually increased from room temperature to 250 °C, while the hydrogen pressure increased from 3 MPa to approximately 5 MPa. Once the temperature reached 250 °C, the reaction time was recorded. After the prescribed reaction time, the reactor was cooled to room temperature, and the reaction mixture was recovered. The solid catalyst was separated from the reaction liquid by centrifugal filtration, then the catalyst was dried at 110 °C for 12 hours before being recovered and stored.
