Acid blue 40 (AB40) is one of the dyes commonly found in industrial wastewater. Polyaniline (PANI), magnetic oxides and their composites (PANI/Fe3O4) were used as adsorbents to remove AB40 dye from water.
Adsorption behavior of acid blue 40 by different adsorbents
· The maximum adsorption capacities of Fe3O4, PANI and composite materials are 130.5, 264.9 and 216.9 mg/g respectively. That is, the interaction of AB40 dye with PANI is higher than that of Fe3O4 and composite materials.
· The enhanced adsorption on PANI can be attributed to the electrostatic interactions between PANI and the oppositely charged sites of AB40. More active sites that generate physical forces also enhance the adsorption of dyes on polyaniline.
· The enhanced adsorption on PANI also benefits from its smaller activation energy value than Fe3O4 and PANI/Fe3O4 composites.
